Marketing is defined as the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, and personally I could not disagree more. Marketing isn’t just a means to production, marketing is the ability to construe and redefine reality- whether it’s a company, school, or person, marketing is the forefront of creating imagery for a brand. That’s why I love marketing and that’s why I love the possibility of being able to market for UCR.

 

Prior to all of this, I was never an ASB poster child or cabinet of a community service club. Lack of passion coupled with a sense of complacency are more than to blame for this. However, fast forward a year, and I arrive at UCR and I finally found a reason to get involved. I was enamored with the pride and diversity of the university, along with a growing interest in Marketing. My eyes had opened to the opportunity to intertwine my passion for branding and UCR, inevitably leading to my desire to become your Marketing and Promotions Director. This determination does not stem from the influence or the resume-filling that comes with the position, but simply having the ability to truly encapsulate the characteristics that make UCR uncontested.

 

In every marketing position I’ve held, I have always upheld the same standards I listed earlier in My Mission, which are Transparency, Humility and Quality. This is reflected in numerous cases, such as a segment I created as member of ASUCR’s Marketing Committee which is “Highlander of the Week”, an interview segment I wanted to create in order to feature members of ASUCR and student body- to shine light on students being more than just students, and show that everyone has a past, present and a future worth showcasing on our page. The same can also be said for “Rock the Cut”, a segment on J’Bez Barbershop’s account that highlights customers who come in and post a photo of them rocking our haircuts outside the shop, not only to showcase our work, but to really emphasize our individual attention to our customers and show how far a $20 haircut can really take you. With every post I do, no matter the page, no matter the content, I will always strive to retain the highest quality while paying homage to those that matter, the supporters who follow.

So, at the end of the day, if you’re choosing to vote for me, don’t do it because of my resume, my knowledge of Adobe suite, or just because you know my name. If you’re choosing to vote for me, do it and do it with confidence because you know you’re putting someone in office who is passionate about what they do and who they’re doing it for.
